“I’ve been with you to Serbia three times now Paul, and each time it just gets better. Keep up the good work!”

Alec Becconsall, Serbian Bird Tour 2019

Book this Serbian Bird Photography Tour and capture fresh images of Bee-eater, Roller and Hoopoe! This Balkan land-locked country is packed full of bird-life. Relatively undiscovered by photographers, the carefully situated photo hides offer stunning images with colourful natural backdrops. This Tour includes tranquil accommodation beside the largest natural lake in Serbia, Lake Palic. Airport transfers are in an air conditioned mini-bus with our professional driver.

There will be 6 days of photography consisting of 12 photo sessions. Some of our hides are one-way glass offering a wide uninterrupted perspective; it really does make a difference when waiting for birds to arrive on perches or trying to capture those difficult flight shots.! We spend time in our established Tower Hide photographing Red footed Falcon, European Roller and Common Kestrel. Other photo sessions include the Low Level Water Hides for Grey, Squacco and Night Heron and Drinking Pools for woodland birds such as Hawfinch, Red backed Shrike, Nightingale and Sparrowhawk. European Bee-eaters and Hoopoes are photographed from pop-up hides at nesting sites.

Photography Locations

To add variety to this bird photography tour we also enjoy ‘on foot’ photography at Protected Wetland Reserves. These areas are thriving with breeding birds including Night Heron, Great Egret and Marsh Harrier. From a hide deep in the reed-beds you can capture Sedge Warbler, Savi’s Warbler and Great Reed Warbler. We also visit the habitat of the wonderful Penduline Tit that builds its hanging nest near the water’s edge. Our low level Water Hides offer close views of Purple Heron and Pygmy Cormorant, beautifully situated for both light and background.

Useful Information:

  • Flights are from London Heathrow with Air Serbia, leaving early afternoon. (Please leave two days either side of dates for possible flight changes)
  • A reasonable level of fitness is required: temperatures can be around 30 degrees. The tower hide can be even hotter (and requires climbing a ladder to enter). Therefore hide sessions are usually in the cooler hours of early morning and late afternoon / evening. There is very little walking involved during the tour.
  • Please note, we will be driving on some country and woodland tracks which can be bumpy in nature. But it’s fun!

Serbia is developing in eco-tourism and increasingly providing quality hides for bird photographers. This is an opportunity to be part of something fresh and new, not to mention experiencing the world famous Serbian hospitality and food!
