Photograph Red Kites in flight with Wildlife Photographer Paul Miguel.
Tuesday 24th March 2020
Book this photography workshop and enjoy the breathtaking tumbling and diving of these magnificent raptors! Red Kites were released at Harewood and Bramham in Yorkshire around 15 years ago. Since then they have spread rapidly and are now seen regularly around Leeds. We meet at a reliable feeding site where good numbers of birds congregate each day. The site is urban but offers very clear views against the sky and sometimes kites perch in nearby trees. Please note: these are wild birds and whilst this is a reliable site, their behaviour can change day by day. However, kites can often come within ten metres of photographers – sometimes closer!
Flight photography is difficult to master so I’ll spend time setting up your camera to give you the best chance of successful images. In particular, it’s important to understand exposure, auto-focus and focus points in order to achieve quality results. Your camera and lens combination needs to reasonably fast to keep up with these fast flying birds. DSLRs are advised; some mirrorless cameras will be suitable If you’re unsure about equipment just ask beforehand. This is a fun packed afternoon with plenty of opportunities for action shots!
