“I am very pleased with my pictures – the bee-eater’s aggression, roller’s mating, penduline tits and flying hoopoes. Thanks for all your hard work organising and keeping the action moving along so well.”
John Webster, Serbia Bird Tour 2018
Book this Serbian Bird Photography Tour and capture fresh images of iconic birds such as Bee-eater, Roller and Red footed Falcon! This Balkan land-locked country is packed full of bird-life. Relatively undiscovered by photographers, the carefully situated photo hides offer stunning images with colourful natural backgrounds. This Tour includes a very high standard of accommodation at the luxurious 4 star Hotel Galleria – the perfect place to recover from the early morning starts!
There will be 6 days of photography with a minimum of 8 hide sessions – early mornings and late afternoon/evenings. Some hides are one-way glass offering a wide uninterrupted perspective; it really does make a difference when waiting for birds to arrive on perches or trying to capture those difficult flight shots. We spend time in the well established Tower Hide photographing Red footed Falcon, Common Kestrel and European Roller. Other photo sessions include Low Level Water Hides for herons and egrets and a Drinking Pool for woodland birds including Hawfinch, Red backed Shrike and Sparrowhawk.
Exotic Bee-eaters and Hoopoes are photographed from pop-up hides at nesting sites. We also visit two Protected Nature Reserves thriving with breeding birds. Pygmy Cormorants nest en masse, with Night Heron, Great Egret and Marsh harrier regularly flying by. Reed-beds are alive with the song of Reed, Sedge and Great Reed Warbler and Penduline tit frequents the water’s edge. In addition, we take a Private Boat Trip through reed-beds allowing us to capture water birds from a unique perspective! The tour also includes a half day sight-seeing tour of the capital Belgrade.
Target birds include: red footed falcon, common kestrel, roller, bee-eater, hoopoe, grey heron, night heron, squacco heron, purple heron, little egret, great egret, pygmy cormorant, common cormorant, hawfinch, nightingale, red backed shrike, lesser grey shrike, song thrush, tree pipit, greater spotted woodpecker, sparrowhawk, blackcap, jay, turtle dove, great reed warbler, penduline tit
Other possible species: Other possible species: goshawk, little owl, black woodpecker, syrian woodpecker, golden oriole, cuckoo, sand martin, bearded tit, marsh harrier, bittern, little bittern, long eared owl
- Flights are from Luton to arrive in Belgrade at midnight; an overnight stop over before travelling north (afternoon flights can be taken from Heathrow)
- A reasonable level of fitness is required: temperatures can be around 30 degrees. The tower hide is even hotter (and requires climbing a ladder to enter). Therefore hide sessions will be in the cooler hours of early morning and evening. There is very little walking involved during the tour.
- Please note, we will be driving on some country and woodland tracks which can be bumpy in nature.
Serbia is developing in eco-tourism and is keen to provide quality hides for bird photographers. This is an opportunity to be part of something fresh and new, not to mention experiencing the world famous Serbian hospitality and food!
